Grants - Inception to Date

Through 2026, PRCCF has awarded more than $537,000 in grants to our community.  These grants have helped improve the lives of countless needy recipients in our area.

A short description of each year's grant recipients are summarized on the following pages.

2026 Grant Recipients
In the year ending June 30, 2026, PRCCF awarded grants to 7 recipients for a total of $117,350.

Theme: Helping our aging population with quality of life challenges resulting from age related illnesses or disabilities. Community resources and programs could include long term care, assisted living, caregiver training, medical support, transportation to appointments, therapy, hospice and programs that provide proven and innovative approaches to supporting aging in place.

Lowcountry Legal Volunteers - Living Well, Planning Wisely: To fund free estate and health care planning for low income elderly citizens.

 

Mira Sol Health - Unfunded Care for Serious Illnesses: To partially fund hospice and palliative care to client base of over 1,600 low country residents. 

Second Helpings - Senior Food Access Initiative: To start a new program to address the escalating concerns among older adults dealing with food insecurities.

Programs for Exceptional People (PEP) - Helping Other People Eternally (HOPE): To address quality of life challenges for aging PEP members, especially those facing dementia.  Program will enhance safety, provide training to staff and families and implement a fitness program for members.

Meals on Wheels - More Than A Meal: To fund the daily delivery of fresh hot meals to the homes of homebound, isolated and aged residents. Each delivery includes a wellness check which facilitates aging in place.

Volunteers in Medicine (Bluffton / Jasper) - Senior Care Transition Program: To assist in transition to Medicare and other senior-focused health care providers as well as providing care in cases that experience delays in transitioning to the post-65 providers.

Memory Matters - Adult Day Memory Care Respite Program: To provide day program designed to promote memory, movement and social interaction. At the same time, caregivers receive dependable respite and access to guidance and community resources.

2026 Discretionary Grants                                                                           $ 45,000

 

Theme: Projects that fall outside of our annual grant cycle: to address an immediate or emergency need, to provide additional funding for annual grants, to support a projects outside the annual theme, or to issue a high impact grant.

Seabrook - Fire Suppression Upgrade: To help upgrade the interior fire suppression system required by the recent fire code changes.

Children's Center - Tuition Assistance Program: To provide financial assistance to the tuition subsidy program enabling the high quality early education for needy families during times of unexpected hardships.  

Community Foundation of the Lowcountry - Helping Neighbor's Fund: To provide financial assistance to combat food insecurity that has increased due to the delay's with SNAP funding.

Volunteers in Medicine (Hilton Head) - Exam Table Replacement: To fund replacement of one of the thirteen  needed exam tables.   

Spirit of Sebastian - Substance Abuse, Education and Prevention: To provide prevention and education activities, and to provide financial assistance to individuals seeking recovery from substance abuse.

2025 Grant Recipients
In the year ending June 30, 2025, PRCCF awarded grants to 8 recipients for a total of $122,400.

Theme: Projects promoting mental health for persons with psychological, emotional or intellectual disabilities.

 

Operation Patriots FOB - Peer to Peer Retreat and Wellness Program: To provide wellness retreats for veteran and first responder who suffer from PTSD that teaches to make peace with the past, live in the present, and develop a plan for the future to reduce suicides.

 

Volunteers in Medicine - Funding for a Bi-Lingual Behavioral Health Counselor: To partner with Mental Health America (MHA) and Bluffton/Jasper VIM to expand their Mental Health Clinic services to low-income, often non-English-speaking patients.

 

Mira Sol Health - Rays of Hope Behavioral Health: To provide accessible, affordable outpatient mental health services to underserved individuals in lower-income offering individual therapy, group counseling, and telehealth options.

 

Heroes on Horseback - Equine Therapy for Special Needs Children and Military Vets: To provide equine therapeutic activities for special needs children, veterans, active duty military and emergency responders that is specific to their physical, emotional, and mental challenges.

NAMI Lowcountry - Expanding Mental Health Programs in the Lowcountry: To expand the NAMI Connections and Family Support Group programs, recruit volunteer, provide facilitator training and raise awareness of free mental health programs.

Programs for Exceptional People - Enhancing Calm and Comfort for Adults with intellectual Disabilities, Autism, and Anxiety Disorders: To create a new “Serenity Space” (calming area) to serve adults with intellectual disabilities, autism, and anxiety disorders, and to support Music Therapy that reduces stress and promotes well-being.

Real Champions - Mental Health Support for Advocate Mentors: To provide Advocate Mentors with mental health support that is crucial for the staff to be emotionally and mentally healthy to continue supporting each child for their entire school career regardless of the challenges the mentees may experience.

Pockets Full of Sunshine - Programming for Adults with Disabilities: To provide daily programming for adults with special needs which  include staffing, art and craft supplies, screen printing materials, transportation, venue/activity or instructional costs.

2025 Discretionary Grants                                                                           $ 20,000

 

Theme: Projects that fall outside of our annual grant cycle: to address an immediate or emergency need, to provide additional funding for annual grants, to support a project outside the annual theme, or to issue a high impact grant.

Deep Well - Circles: To provide half of the needed funding to establish a “Pre-Circles” feeder program to increase readiness for enrollment in the Circles program, and a “Circles Light” shortened 4-week to 6-week course for those who just need shoring up rather than the full 18-month program.

HHSPD - Project Safe: To provide funding for sewer hookups for those who want one but can’t afford it to reduce the environmental risks associated with septic systems on the Island.

2024 Grant Recipients
In the year ending June 30, 2024, PRCCF awarded grants to 6 recipients for a total of $108,385.

Theme: Programs or projects designed to break the cycle of poverty through education by improving academic readiness and performance for children, birth through elementary school. This may include helping families connect to educational opportunities and resources.

 

Neighborhood Outreach Connection - Brightening Low-Income Students Academic Future: To provide high risk children (Pre-k to Grade 8) with quality afterschool education/enrichment activities using experienced teachers, skilled staff, volunteers, and technology to attain greater math & reading skills

 

Real Champions - Advocacy Mentorship: To fund 2 additional students in a hybrid in school/out of school program that combines daily mentorship through their 12 years of school with holistic advocacy to equip students with the tools to achieve life-long success.

 

The Children’s Center - Giving kids a GREAT start to life: To Provide early childhood literacy development using a curriculum based on SC developmental standards for children ages six weeks through the end of their first year.

 

Boys & Girls Club of Hilton Head - The Boys & Girls Club of HHI’s Reading Enrichment Program: To provide a teacher led reading enrichment program, primarily children in first and second grades, offering literacy resources, on-line reading comprehension and assessment tools, as well as fluency reading.

 

Mental Health America of the Lowcountry - To start a program that provides bilingual mental health related educational materials and resources to Spanish speaking parents /  of children in pre-school-grade 6 so they learn to read in English and, in turn, can read to their children.

 

Antioch Educational Center - The Antioch Educational Center Scholars: To provide academic support to low-income students in 1st through 3rd grade to prepare them to successfully take academically advanced classes.

 

2024 Discretionary Grant                                                                          $ 20,000

Theme: Projects that fall outside of our annual grant cycle: to address an immediate or emergency need, to provide additional funding for annual grants, to support a project outside the annual theme, or to issue a high impact grant.

 

CCDC - Workforce Housing: To acquire, maintain, develop or redevelop and rent affordable housing with appropriate use restrictions for qualified Hilton Head workers to increase the long-term availability of affordable workforce housing.

2023 Grant Recipients
In the year ending June 30, 2023, PRCCF awarded grants to 8 recipients for a total of $84,500.

Theme: Programs or projects designed to break the cycle of poverty by promoting self-sufficiency and sustainable improvement with a focus on long-term solutions to housing, food insecurity, or preventive medical and dental health.

 

Bluffton Self Help - Learning & Literacy Centers Pathways to Personal Success: To build skills, including financial and digital literacy, US Citizenship and preparation for a National Career Readiness Certificate.

 

Boys & Girls Clubs of the Lowcountry - Bluffton - Fee Relief Program: To fund 20 children from low-income families to improve academic performance providing role models, mentors, health and wellness programs and community engagement.

 

Good Neighbor Free Medical Clinic of Beaufort - Primary Care Program: To provide low-income adults with primary medical care, non-surgical specialty care, health education, prescription assistance and diagnostic and laboratory tests.

 

Hilton Head Island Deep Well Project - Circles Program: To support the 18 families living in poverty currently enrolled in a program that provides networking opportunities, mentoring, meals, and peer support to help them create a better life for their families.

 

Hilton Head Regional Habitat for Humanity - Home Repair Program: To purchase building supplies to assist current local low-income homeowners make critical repairs to restore their homes to health and safety standards.

 

Hopeful Horizons - Safe at Home Transitional Housing Program: To preserve, expand, and enhance affordable housing options by providing rental assistance, security deposits, rental application and administrative fees, and assistance with moving expenses.

 

Lowcountry Gullah Foundation - To assist Gullah Geechee families with legal and ownership issues with heirs’ property, struggling to pay delinquent taxes and providing workshops aimed at preventing future issues.

Neighborhood Outreach Connection - To bring medical services directly into low-income neighborhoods including preventive health care,  screenings, health and wellness workshops to raise awareness about common diseases, contributing factors, prevention, and timely care.

2022 Grant Recipients
In the year ending June 30, 2022, PRCCF awarded grants to 14 recipients for a total of $20,000.

Theme: Poverty as it Affects Children and Families in the areas of Food Insecurity, Education, Housing, Health and Transportation.

 

Antioch Educational Center: To provide meals for the Scholars Program, to ensure that students from low-income households are healthy and can fully participate in opportunities for academic achievement.

 

Born to Read: To provide age-appropriate books, and parenting tips newsletters and booklets for new parents to promote early childhood literacy and language development.

 

Family Promise of Beaufort County: To provide groceries and gas money for homeless families with children in a program, that provides temporary shelter and permanent housing solutions.

 

Hilton Head Island Deep Well Project: To assist with electric bills so people can be safe in their homes.

 

Hilton Head Island Safe Harbour - Adopt A Senior Program: To provide transportation to medical appointments, grocery stores or food pantries to help people age safely in their own homes.

 

Hopeful Horizons: To digitize counseling records of survivors of child abuse, domestic violence and sexual assault for security, readability and accuracy for court records.

 

Meals on Wheels Bluffton – Hilton Head: To purchase 200 meals for homebound individuals who lack capacity to prepare nutritious meals, and to provide socialization and reliability.

 

NAMI Lowcountry - Family-to-Family Program: To train facilitators for an 8-week course that educates families on crisis management and coping strategies.

 

Neighborhood Outreach Connection: To provide educational materials to high-risk children from low-income households to build reading and comprehension skills, and learn critical thinking, problem solving, and social networking.

 

Operation Patriots Forward Operating Base: To provide accommodations for combat veterans attending a program that provides peer engagement and outdoor recreational activities to help to reduce the suicide rate.

 

Real Champions: To provide a professional mentor for one child who provides academic and social-emotional support starting in kindergarten and remaining through high school graduation.

 

Sandalwood Community Food Pantry: To purchase nutritious food for specific clients and children with health disparities and special dietary needs, including baby formula.

 

Hunger Coalition of the Lowcountry / Backpack Buddies: To purchase a bag of nutritious produce each day for the 60 children from low-income households attending Boys & Girls Club.

 

Volunteers in Medicine Hilton Head - Food it Forward: To distribute perishable healthy and diabetic friendly food bags to VIM’s food insecure patients from VIM’s hydroponic garden.
